Residential school Survivors discuss reconciliation and engagement in NCTR event

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) will be hosting an online discussion with residential school Survivors, “Nothing for us without us.” The voices of residential school Survivors are a critical part of reconciliation and continue to impact Indigenous Peoples in Canada. This dialogue will focus on the importance of Survivors’ voices, how they are relevant to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and how to engage with Survivors and other Indigenous knowledge keepers.

  • Kevin Lamoureux (Host) is a professor at the University of Winnipeg, where he has worked on Indigenous issues such as the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Phyllis Googoo is from the Waycobah First Nation. She has taught at St. Francis Xavier University, while also working on numerous Indigenous initiatives such as the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.
  • Dr. Barney Williams is a member of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, where he is an elder and residential school survivor. 
  • Levinia Brown is a registered nurse who has spent many years working with Indigenous communities in the Territories of Canada.
