In 2024, events to honour Orange Shirt Day at UBC included an Intergenerational March hosted by UBC’s faculties of Applied Science and Land and Food Systems, a series of film screenings and discussions hosted by the Centre, crafting workshops at the First Nations House of Learning, and a variety of speaker series and lectures. The Chan Centre hosted the Come Toward the Fire | Indigenous Festival, that had an Indigenous market and featured Indigenous performing artists.
Once again, the Centre partnered with Musqueam to install orange and white banners with the phrase ‘Every Child is Important’ in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and ‘Every Child Matters’ in English on campus and at Musqueam.

The Centre chose to highlight xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) artist təlnaq̓ə, also known as Alec Guerin, by displaying his 2023 Orange Shirt Day T-shirt Design for another year. Learn more about Alec and his 2023 design.

The Centre presented three films followed by conversations over the course of September. The Centre screened WaaPaKe (Tomorrow), Ever Deadly, and s-yéwyáw: Awaken. These were in partnership with the National Film Board (NFB), and with Liz Marshall and the team behind s-yéwyáw: Awaken.
